2017 Rex Johnston Pairs Tournament

Crawford Linton and Rex Johnston
Club Belrose, Wednesday, 12 July 2017

This years Rex Johnston Invitational Pairs tournament was played in beautiful conditions on three quality tifdwarf greens courtesy of club green keeper Joe Saragozza. In a new format where overall positions reset after the first day, money was up for grabs for every team on both Monday and Tuesday, with prize money given down to 6th place along with best game cards.

Day 1 saw the Belrose/Cabramatta combination of James Brown and Billy Johnson take home 1st place with 4 wins +35 closely followed by Steve Smith and Terry Warder (Harbord) in 2nd place and Andy Townsend and Paul Somers (Dee Why) rounding out the top 3.

Day 2 saw only one team from the Top 6 in Day 1 finish in the money again on Day 2, reflecting the high quality of players in the field. Day 2 spoils went to former Belrose Bull Warren 'Millsie' Mills who teamed up with club legend Joe Saragozza to secure 1st place with a commanding 4 wins + 38, some 16 shots ahead of 2nd place team Mark Blackwood (Mona Vale) and Tim Jarratt (Denman). Special mention must go to Nick Skipper (Belrose) who teamed up with 11 year old superstar Ethan Scott-Branagan and claimed prize money for the best card of Round 1. Their opponents... the previous days winners!

Club Belrose would like to thank all teams for participating in the event as well as the green keeping staff and many volunteers who gave up their time to make the event as successful as it was.
